Welcome to Wild Magic Forest

A place where children can explore, learn, and grow in the great outdoors. Our mission is to provide children with opportunities to engage with nature and to develop their physical, social, and emotional skills through experiential learning.

Our Forest School Leader

My name is Saara, a teacher and Forest School leader from Finland. I love being outdoors and exploring nature, most recently with my 1 year old daughter and seeing the pure joy when she sees leaves and twigs is just priceless!
Since studying to be a FS leader I want to encourage all children and adults to come outdoors, to enjoy and to also protect nature, thus deepening that connection we have with nature.

What is forest school ?

A forest school is an outdoor-based educational approach that emphasizes learning in natural environments, particularly forested areas. The goal of forest schools is to provide children with opportunities to engage with nature and to develop their physical, social, and emotional skills through experiential learning.

Forest schools originated in Scandinavia in the 1950s and have since spread to other parts of the world, including the United Kingdom, Canada, and the United States. Forest schools typically take place in wooded areas or other natural settings, such as parks, gardens, or beaches. Children in forest schools spend extended periods of time outdoors, often exploring, playing, and engaging in activities such as nature walks, shelter-building, and fire-making.

The focus of forest schools is on child-led learning and exploration, with a teacher or facilitator acting as a guide and mentor rather than an instructor. Children are encouraged to follow their interests and to engage with nature at their own pace, with the facilitator providing support and guidance as needed, but always allowing the children to take the lead.

Our Beliefs

We believe that connecting with nature is essential for children’s overall well-being. Being outdoors in natural environments can help children to develop a sense of awe and wonder, as well as a deep appreciation for the environment. It can also help to reduce stress and anxiety and to promote physical fitness and health.
At our forest school, we welcome children of all ages and backgrounds. Whether your child is a nature lover or just looking to explore the great outdoors, our forest school is the perfect place for them to learn, grow, and have fun. Forest School should not just be planned activities but to also bravely step into the unknown and realms of unplanned and unexpected. At Wild Magic Forest School we follow in the moment planning, following the childrens interests and basing any future activities on observations from the sessions free play or adult led activities.

Wild Magic Forest School aims to create a positive and life long relationship between the learner and nature, nurturing this with information and engaging with the innate curiosity and need to know of each child. We work to create a positive, safe, non-threatening environment for children to make choices an initiate their learning, developing self esteem, and confidence through the completion of small, achievable tasks. We vow to always be true to the Forest School values, to develop and progress and reflect on our practice to make it even better.
